Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-51-A) Flown Solid Rocket Booster Nozzle Section

 

Flown carbon phenolic block cut from the motor nozzle of one of the solid rocket boosters (SRBs) that launched the crew of Space Shuttle Discovery into low earth orbit on the STS-51-A mission. The plaque that reads: “This space artifact was cut from the nozzle of one of Morton Thiokol’s reusable solid rocket booster motors that propelled NASA’s Space Shuttle Discovery toward earth orbit on 8 Nov 1984. It is presented to you in gratitude for your executive role in the 1985 US Savings Bond Campaign. Morton Thiokol Inc., Wasatch Division.”

This plaque contains a large flown artifact, attractively presented and seldom seen. In fine condition, with a few surface scratches to the acrylic plaque.  The flown artifact measures 2″ x 1″ x .5″, affixed to a 4″ x 5″ translucent acrylic Morton Thiokol presentation.
