Flown ISS Cargo Transport Bag label card for the Russian ISS Expedition 11 crew. This label was flown to the ISS onboard Space Shuttle Discovery on STS-114 (ISS Assembly Mission LF-1), launching from Kennedy Space Center on 26 July 2005. STS-114 was the "return to flight" mission following the Columbia disaster. It was returned to earth on STS-121 (ISS Assembly Mission ULF 1.1), landing on 17 July 2006. These mission designations are clearly indicated on the card. This card spent a total of 355 days in space!
This label was used on a Cargo Transfer Bag (CTB) to identify the bag’s contents and its maximum toxicity rating. These bags were used to transport and store mission-critical supplies and equipment on the International Space Station. When no longer needed, the bag and label were returned to earth on a departing Shuttle flight in order to make room for new cargo.
The card measures 5.25" x 4," and is printed on a special fire-retardant paper. All handwriting was applied on-orbit by a crew member.
This card comes from the personal collection of a KSC Quality Assurance Inspector who removed it during post-flight processing from a returning Shuttle mission. Ships with an Orbital Artifacts Certificate of Authenticity.
