STS-2 Cue Card Book - Entry (Training-Used; Ex. Sherwood Spring)
 
This item is a three page, ring-bound set of cue cards covering Entry Data, Lift/Drag, Reaction Control System (RSC) Usage, Roll Reversal Phasing, Trim/OSC during the final landing approach after deorbit and entry.  It was used in the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory during testing and training for STS-2.
 
This is a flight-ready article, complete with hook and loop squares, allowing it to be attached to control panels in the cockpit for easy reference during flight or mission simulations.  
 
Cue cards contain quick-reference abbreviations of the more detailed procedures found in the flight checklists. They list the basic functions the crew must execute during dynamics phases of flight when there is no time to refer to the full checklist procedures (most of which were memorized during the long hours of mission simulation).
 
Provenance: This and other cards and checklists from STS-1 and STS-2 were given to Taylor Jernigan (a Space Camp / Space Academy Instructor) by Astronaut Sherwood “Woody” Spring during a visit to the Astronaut Office at Johnson Space Center in the mid-80s.  According to Jernigan, Woody Spring told him these cue cards were originally given to him by Bob Crippen, who was preparing to throw them away (see attached letter)!  Woody later gave these items to Jernigan, who kept them in his collection until  I purchased them from him in 2018.  When originally obtained, the cards—all relating to Deorbit and Re-Entry procedures—were packed in a clear plastic bag with a “SAIL - Do Not Remove” sticker, indicating they originated in the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory (SAIL) in Building 16 at JSC, where they would have been used on OV-095 during testing and training for the STS-2 mission.  It is interesting to note that Woody Spring's early technical assignment was in software verification in the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory and Flight Simulation Laboratory.
