Vintage STS-60 patches (Russian Version) direct from the personal collection of Astronaut and NASA Director Charlie Bolden, Jr.
This vintage AB Emblem patch features gold bullion piping and lettering (unlike later versions, which used yellow thread). A unique opportunity to own a mission emblem from the personal collection of one of the men who flew the mission!
Charles F. Bolden, Jr. flew on STS-61C, STS-31, STS-45, and STS-60. In addition to his career as an astronaut, Bolden also served as the 12th Administrator of NASA from 2009 to 2017. STS-60 was the first mission of the US/Russian Shuttle-Mir Program, which carried Russian cosmonaut Sergei K. Krikalev to space aboard a Space Shuttle.
The design of the crew patch for NASA's STS-60 mission depicts Discovery's on-orbit configuration. The American and Russian flags symbolize the partnership of the two countries and their crew members taking flight into space together for the first time. The open payload bay shows the Space Habitation Module (Spacehab), a commercial space laboratory for life and material science experiments, and a Getaway Special Bridge Assembly in the aft section carrying various experiments. The Wake Shield Facility—a scientific experiment to create and measure an ultra-vacuum environment and perform semiconductor material science—is shown on the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) before deployment.
Comes with an Orbital Artifacts Letter of Provenance/COA certifying that the patch originates from the personal collection of Charles F. Bolden, Jr., and was purchased from his estate in the online Charles Bolden Estate Auction held by Elwoods Auctions of Hagerstown, MD in 2021.
Each patch is guaranteed 100% authentic and as-described and bears a holographic serial number on the reverse linking it to the COA.
